The theme challenge for this month is Celebration (Please include the tag challenge: celebration when you post.) Theme challenges have to do with fic choice. Since this month's challenge is 'celebration' your story has to be related to that theme one way or another.
The shape challenge is 'A shape' (tag challenge: a shape). This should be at minimum 10 squares, ie:
OOXOO
OXOXO
XXXXX
XOOOX
OOOOO
Shape challenges require that you complete a specific shape of squares on your card. If you complete a shape challenge by the deadline, you’ll win a cheat. If your card already has the shape formation before the challenge starts, you can only count that challenge as completed if you fill at least one square on your card within the challenge time period.
You can pick the challenge you prefer or do both if you're feeling ambitious. Once you’ve posted the podfic required to fulfill the monthly challenge, please comment here to let us know you’ve completed the challenge.
If you complete a challenge, you earn a cheat. If none of the challenges appeal to you, you can also earn cheats by commenting on other people's podfics.
What are Cheats?
Cheats are rewards that allow participants to manipulate their cards so that they can be finished more easily. There are 2 kinds of cheats: shifting squares and swapping out squares. Shifting squares allows participants to swap locations of two squares on their card. Swapping out cheats allow you to discard one of your prompts entirely from your card and replace it with a prompt of your choosing from the Prompt List.

Yikes, it's been a minute since I posted here :( This period covers my 30th 9-1-1 fic to my 35th, holy crap! Never thought I'd still be so gone on this show after four years.
( A few 911 fics and a wild card, nearly 40,000 words total )
Yes, I slashed the Rock and Captain America. I'm not sorry.

Pairing: None, gen

Rating: T
Length: 6380 words

Theme: Angst with a Happy Ending, Hurt/Comfort
Summary:I'm dying, Izzy thought with sudden, brutal clarity. Right on the heels of that came: Finally.
And then: Edward.
Reccer's Notes: Izzy nearly drowns and requires a lot of care from Ed and Stede. Izzy really has to very nearly die before he will let himself accept love, especially from Stede. This was written before season two.

Our theme for May is angst (with a happy ending)!
That's to say it's angst, but you're guaranteed a happy ending. Though what qualifies as "happy" is, of course, at the discretion of the reccer.
The tag for this round is: theme: angst (with a happy ending)

Fandom: The Old Guard
Pairings: background Joe/Nicky
Characters: Nile, Celeste, Andy, Joe, Nicky
Rating: None (I'd guess Teen)
Length: 3,300 words
Creator Links:
Theme: Outsider POV, Never met in canon, Post-canon, Character development
Summary: "My name is Nile, like the river. You helped my friend," the woman says. "A woman with dark hair and a stab wound in her shoulder." She does not sound unfamiliar with phrases such as stab wound.
Reccer's Notes: Excellent outside/minor character POV. When the team needs medical help, Celeste cautiously agrees. The team works as a team in helping Celeste help Andy, making sure Andy will follow ‘doctor’s orders’, and deciding whether or not to tell Celeste what they are. Celeste is wonderful -- observant, accepting, non-judgmental, capable -- and her referenced background is perfect; we can believe that this woman can be thrown into something so much bigger than she ever could have guessed at, but still remain remarkably composed. We’re left with a hint of a future ‘more’ -- both professional and personal -- for a thoroughly satisfying story. Previously recc'd in 2022 for "never met in canon."

Sentinel x SG1: Dark, Still Water by LitGal

Fandom: The Sentinel and Stargate SG1
Pairings: None
Characters: Teal'c, Blair, Jim, Daniel, Jack, Sam, OCs
Rating: Teen
Length: 121,200 words
Creator Links:
Theme: Outsider POV, Novel-length, Crossovers/fusions, Characters of color, Fix-it
Summary: When one of Daniel Jackson's friends goes snooping into the wrong computer, the SG-1 team comes to Cascade to find her before the NID can. But the local detective assigned to assist them--and his very strange anthropologist partner--complicate things. Teal'c isn't sure what the relationship is between Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg, but he knows it isn't healthy, and he knows that he would like to help. He also knows that there is something very unusual about the young Blair Sandburg, something which reminds Teal'c of old Jaffa stories of men with mystical powers.
Reccer's Notes: Teal'c doesn't quite understand the relationship between Jim and Blair, but he does not approve of the way Jim alternately ignores Blair and rides roughshod over his attempts to address the current mystery. His quiet support for Blair first exacerbates the conflict between Jim and Blair, but then helps them recognize and accept the next step of their sentinel/guide connection. This is a rattling good story, which I previously recc'd in 2021 for novel-length.
Content Notes: Canon-typical violence, and some Jim treating Blair badly, as in the bad days after Sen Too.

Fandom: The Old Guard
Pairings: background Joe/Nicky and background Andy/Quynh
Characters: Nile, OCs, Joe, Nicky, Booker, Quynh
Rating: Teen
Length: 3,200 words
Creator Links:
Theme: Outsider POV, Never met in canon, Post-canon, Female friendship
Summary: The last thing Teyfuq Mustafayev expects, as he puts the coffee on and slices bread and cheese for his still-sleeping wife Ayshe on a morning still with the promise of the Hot Season that will soon crackle his farm dry, is an American girl with a crumpled pile of hyrvina bills in her hands that he knows at a glance are worth more than his son Murat earns at his engineer’s job in Sevastopol, perfect Moscovite Russian in her mouth, and death in her eyes.
Reccer's Notes: Only the first half is "through another's eyes," but it's very effective as the OCs recognize and respond to Nile's grief, and try in their own way to help her deal with it. Nile and the team honors and buries Andy. This hits me right in the feels. It's beautiful and sweet, but sad; keep a tissue handy. Previously recc'd in 2022 for 'never met in canon'.

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters/Pairings: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Other original characters
Rating: E, then G
Length: 512 & 344 words
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: Punk on AO3, anatsuno on AO3 anatsuno's podfic
Themes: Outsider POV, Humor, Crack
Summaries: In Atlantis, the tables can hear you scream.
The secret life of furniture. Sequel to Tabled.
Reccer's Notes: I'm very fond of this series and I've reccd Tabled before, but I realised today that this is a great example of outsider POV. Also, I'm reccing the podfics of the two stories as well, which meant I had to quickly make a podfic of T2T, the second in the series. In these fics we see John and Rodney (and other Atlantis inhabitants) from the POV of a sentient Ancient lab table. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for them), John and Rodney don't realise it's sentient, and put it to very carnal use. Then in the sequel, the table gets a friend! The POV of the somewhat prissy table is hilarious, and there are sentient puddlejumpers as a bonus. Plus, in T2T there are parallels between the personalities of the two tables and a couple of other well-known characters. Fun reading or listening!
